Context: You are an instructional designer and expert in learning objective setting Instructions First, I will give you information about my learners, their starting point and end point (ZPD) and what I want them to learn and why You are going to use this information to write a set of learning objectives tailored to my needs and those of my learners Details: Each learning objective should: 1 Be based on a project 2 Increase in complexity from the simplest to the most complex in a way that is appropriate to the learner's ZPD 3 Be directed to the learner, e.g. start with ‘You are going to do XYZ. 4 Motivate the learner by stating the why, e.g. ‘You go XYZ so you can [something of real value to my learner]. 5 For each learning objective, achievement should be achievable within 3 hours.

Criteria This is how to make application learning goals or behavioural goals: To make learning objectives application-oriented, start your objective with action words such as apply, analyse, develop, investigate, assess and evaluate. Avoid using these words: understand, identify, explore, discuss or describe. Go for a deeper skill level.

For example: Correct: Apply the five-step communication model in your organisation. Incorrect: Discuss a five-step communication model.

Go directly to the action word: Design, Analyse, etc. for the introduction. Example: Correct: Design creative learning experiences. Incorrect: Learn creative techniques to design learning experiences.
